LOST CALIFORNIA TWIN

Introducing the Modern MR Twin Fin + Trailer "Fish"

Mark Richards and Matt Biolos have collaborated to create a modern twin fin + trailer "fish" with unique tweaks. This design combines MR's classic lines, speed, and precision turns with Mayhem's expertise in small wave performance.

A Modern Take on a Classic Design

The board is based on MR's popular SuperTwin model, with a modern twist. Biolos made adjustments to create a user-friendly, small wave weapon. Key changes include:

  • Lowered entry rocker for improved glide in small waves
  • Wider nose and tail block for increased stability
  • Added width to the overall outline for enhanced performance in gutless surf
  • Flattened deck for stability, while retaining MR's classic speedy rails and modern performance tail rocker

Performance Features

This board offers the perfect blend of speed, stability, and maneuverability. It features:

  • Flat areas where needed, with curved sections for tight turns
  • Classic MR speedy rails and modern performance tail rocker
  • Ideal for groveling small waves or ripping in various conditions

CALIFORNIA TWIN FAQS

The California Twin excels in various conditions:

  • Small, weak waves: It generates speed effortlessly, making it a great option for groveling in gutless surf.
  • Mid-sized waves: The board truly shines, offering excellent down-the-line speed, smooth rail-to-rail transitions, and tight turns.
  • Steep, fast waves: While not as snappy as a shortboard, it provides early wave entry and solid hold due to its wider tail area

While the board is primarily designed for intermediate to advanced surfers, some beginners transitioning from larger boards have found it user-friendly. Its flat deck adds stability, while the forgiving rails make it easier to handle. However, beginners might find wave entry slightly challenging compared to traditional longboards or wider fish designs

The board comes with three FCS II fin slots and is typically ridden as:

  • Twin + trailer setup: Provides extra hold during turns while maintaining speed.
  • Twin-fin setup only: For a looser and faster feel.
  • Thruster setup (optional): Adds control but changes the board's original twin-fin character.

The Mark Richards Performance Core 2+1 fin set is highly recommended for optimal performance

This board suits:

  • Surfers transitioning from traditional fish designs who want more performance.
  • Intermediate surfers seeking a forgiving yet high-performance board.
  • Advanced surfers looking for a fun alternative to shortboards in smaller surf.

Its versatility makes it appealing to a wide range of riders, from casual surfers to seasoned pros
