HIHP SPEED DESCRIPTION

Harley Ingleby's HIHP series has been a staple in the longboarding community for over a decade, and the HIHP Speed is the newest addition to this legendary lineup. But what makes the HIHP Speed stand out? Harley explains that while the essence of the HIHP remains, the new model boasts subtle yet impactful changes. The tips are slightly pointier, akin to the Diamond Drive, and the overall balance of the board has been fine-tuned for a more dynamic ride.

Refined Rails and Rockers for Enhanced Performance

One of the key aspects Harley emphasized during our interview was the adjustment of the wide point, which has been shifted back a few inches. This seemingly minor tweak has a significant impact on the board's performance, offering a tighter turn radius in the pocket and improved control in powerful waves. The HIHP Speed maintains its low rails and the signature HP rocker, ensuring that the board's DNA is still distinctly Harley Ingleby.

The Surprising Benefit: Nose Riding Capability

Harley was particularly excited about an unexpected improvement—the HIHP Speed's nose riding ability. Despite being a narrow performance longboard, the board excels in nose rides, even in sections where the previous models fell short. This "interesting byproduct" of the design adjustments has been a delightful surprise for Harley and is sure to be a game-changer for longboarders seeking versatility and precision.

Thruster or Quad? The HIHP Speed Adapts

When asked about the board's setup, Harley revealed that he primarily rides the HIHP Speed as a thruster, especially since the recent lack of swell hasn't allowed for extensive testing as a quad. However, he is confident that the board will perform exceptionally well in both configurations once the conditions permit.

HIHP SPEED FAQS

The HIHP Speed is an evolution of the classic HIHP series, featuring subtle yet impactful changes:

  • Slightly pointier tips, similar to the Diamond Drive model
  • Adjusted wide point, shifted back a few inches
  • Greater overall curve for tighter turns in the pocket
  • Improved balance and more dynamic ride
  • Enhanced nose riding ability, despite being a performance longboard

The HIHP Speed is designed as an all-around performance longboard:

  • Excels in hollow waves and beach breaks
  • Capable of trimming down point breaks
  • Performs well in everyday surf conditions, from waist to head-high waves
  • Can be set up as a thruster for most conditions or a quad for larger, more powerful surf

Harley primarily rides the HIHP Speed as a thruster, but it's versatile:

  • Comes with a 4+1 fin setup, allowing for various configurations
  • Can be ridden as a thruster (2+1) or quad
  • For most conditions, the FCS Harley XL tri set is recommended
  • In larger waves or for more speed and control, the FCS Harley XL quad set is suggested

The HIHP Speed stands out due to its:

  • Refined design based on Harley's world championship-winning boards
  • Balance between high-performance features and traditional longboard capabilities
  • Improved turning ability without sacrificing nose riding performance
  • Versatility in various wave conditions

While designed for high-performance surfing, the HIHP Speed can benefit intermediate surfers:

  • Offers improved balance and control, making it easier to progress
  • Allows for both traditional longboard techniques and more aggressive maneuvers
  • Provides versatility for surfers looking to expand their skills in different wave conditions
