Dakine: A Leading Surf Accessories Brand for Over 40 Years

Dakine has been a leading surf accessories brand for more than four decades. Originally founded by Rob Kaplan on Maui in 1979, the brand started out making surf leashes, but soon expanded to other accessories and eventually other sports. It moved its headquarters to Hood River, Oregon in 1986, and has been based there ever since. While the brand was purchased by Billabong International Limited in 2009, it has maintained its status as a leading, independent sports accessories brand, and today builds gear not only for surfing, but also snowboarding, mountain biking, and windsurfing.
