What is Firewire Surfboards's Helium Technology?

Helium is light and lively, and great for generating speed in weak waves. LFT is still light, but a little more drivey and solid, and great for controlling speed in better waves.” - Rob Machado

Helium technology in surfboard construction is a proprietary method developed by Firewire Surfboards that utilizes a unique foam core.

Helium surfboards offer a remarkable combination of lightweight design, durability, and enhanced performance, making them an excellent choice for surfers of all skill levels. The lightweight construction allows for superior maneuverability on the water, significantly improving agility and performance during rides. Despite their reduced weight, Helium technology does not compromise on durability; these boards are built to withstand the rigors of surfing, including impacts and abrasions, ensuring they remain reliable over time.

Additionally, the advanced materials used in Helium surfboards contribute to improved performance across various wave conditions, with many surfers noting better speed and responsiveness. Firewire's commitment to sustainability is also a key advantage, as Helium technology incorporates eco-friendly materials that are less harmful to the environment compared to traditional surfboard manufacturing processes.

THE GEM FAQS

The Gem is designed as a versatile "one-board quiver," capable of handling a wide range of wave conditions and riding styles.

It is designed to perform in small, medium, and larger waves, as well as in point breaks, reefs, and beach breaks.

The Gem Surfboard is a collaboration between 3-time World Longboard Champion Taylor Jensen and shaper Dan Mann.

Watch Talk Story with Dan Mann Here

The Gem has a versatile shape with a wide nose for noseriding, a generous width for stability, and a diamond tail for maneuverability.

It also features a teardrop concave in the nose, transitioning to a double concave through the tail.

The Gem now features Firewire's innovative Helium construction with some unique additions, including a Helium core for quick response and rebound, a Variable Flex iBeam Stringer, a Paulownia wood nose cap, and wood rails from nose to tail for improved flex control.

What are the benefits of the Helium Core Technology in the Gem?

The Helium Core Technology generates speed in weak waves, provides a lively and responsive flex, allows for quick turns, and enhances durability.

The Gem can be ridden as a single fin for traditional longboarding or with a 2+1 setup for added drive and maneuverability.

Taylor Jensen recommends a 10-inch fin for single fin use and a 7.5-inch center fin with 3.75-inch side fins for a 2+1 setup.

The Gem is versatile and performs well in various wave conditions, including small, mushy waves, medium-sized waves, and larger waves. It is also suitable for point breaks, reefs, and beach breaks.

Is the Gem good for noseriding?

Yes, the Gem has a wide and stable nose with a teardrop concave, making it suitable for noseriding.
