YOGA Pose of the Month: Happy Baby Pose

Happy Baby Pose, also known as Ananda Balasana

is a popular yoga pose that is great for beginners. It is an excellent way to stretch the hips, hamstrings, and lower back while also promoting relaxation. This pose targets the hip joints, which can become tight due to prolonged sitting or standing, and helps to stretch the hip flexors, outer hips, and thighs, improving flexibility and mobility in the hip area

To perform the Happy Baby Pose, you can follow these steps:

  1. Lie on your back and exhale, bringing both knees in and hugging them into the chest.
  2. Separate the knees and raise the feet so the soles of the feet are facing the ceiling. The ankles should be directly above the knees and the shins straight and perpendicular to the floor.
  3. Hold the outsides of the feet with your hands and allow the weight of the arms to pull the thighs down and in toward the upper body.

It is essential to listen to your body and modify the pose as needed to avoid any discomfort or pain. Always consult with a certified yoga instructor before practicing yoga, especially if you have any pre-existing medical conditions or injuries.

If you want more guidance on your yoga journey, you can consider starting a membership for access to thousands of yoga classes.
