The Driver 2.0: A Game Changer
In 2019, …Lost released the Driver 2.0, which was the result of hundreds of boards being ridden and refined by the pro team, all under the watchful eye of Matt “Mayhem” Biolos. The Driver 2.0 featured a more gradual rocker and a wider nose, providing speed right out of the gates, without compromising maneuverability.
Extra thickness along the stringer provided a bit of vee in the bottom, making the board more rail to rail, while forgiving rails allow the surfer to recover through radical turns and fully tweaked rotations. Meanwhile, boxier rails in the tail meant faster reaction time off the back foot, while a slightly increased volume meant more paddle power and down-the-line trim speed.
The Evolution to Driver 3.0
Although the Driver 2.0 was released in 2019, it remains incredibly popular, which is why we always have it in stock here at Hawaiian South Shore. However, some people enjoy the newer Driver 3.0, which was revealed in the Stab in the Dark 2022 contest featuring Jack Robinson (placing a very close second!). The product of continued refinement, the Driver 3.0 evolved over a period of three years until it had become an altogether different board than the Driver 2.0—not better or worse, just different feels for different folks.
The Driver 3.0 has more tail rocker and a deeper double to single concave, which means a more advanced feel and greater responsiveness through tight-radius turns in the pocket. The hips have been narrowed a touch and the rails have been upgraded, making the board that much more advanced and sensitive. To balance this out, the width is carried a bit farther forward toward the nose, providing extra volume up front to provide a drivey feel for front-footed surfers. In short, this is a slightly more high-performance, pro-level design, made for maximum maneuverability.
