Oahu High School Surf League Makes a Splash with 2024-25 Season Opener!
Hey surf ohana! We've got some exciting news to share - the Oahu High School Surf League (OHSSL) just kicked off their 2024-25 season at the iconic Ala Moana Bowls, and it's shaping up to be bigger than ever!
This season brings together an impressive lineup of 18 high school teams from across the island, with over 225 talented young surfers hitting the waves. From the North Shore to East Oahu, these student-athletes are representing their schools across five different divisions: boys shortboard, girls shortboard, coed bodyboard, girls longboard, and boys longboard.
What makes this league super special is how it brings our island's surf community together. While surfing isn't officially recognized as an OIA or ILH sport yet, dedicated team coaches have partnered with HSA (Hawaii Surfing Association) to create something truly amazing. They're not just organizing competitions - they're helping our next generation of surfers learn about ocean safety, embrace an active lifestyle, and carry forward Hawaii's rich surfing heritage.
The competition schedule runs from October 2024 through February 2025, with seven exciting contest days planned. Want to know the best part? These events are open to everyone! So grab your beach chairs and come support these awesome young athletes as they showcase their skills.
This year's competing schools include both public and private institutions from all around Oahu, from Kahuku to Kapolei, and 'Iolani to Wai'anae. It's incredible to see such a diverse group of schools coming together to celebrate our surfing culture!
