Hawaiian South Shore's Longboard Fin Line KAIMANA: A Look Back

Hawaiian South Shore’s Own Longboard Fin Line KAIMANA

At Hawaiian South Shore, we were always excited about many things - surfboards, fins, longboarding, you name it! And occasionally, we took that excitement and turned it into something tangible and concrete.

A few years ago, we combined several of our passions and developed a line of Hawaiian South Shore longboard and mid-length fins.

These fins were made from a special form of G10 material that was even lighter and stronger than normal G10, which was quite impressive, considering G10 was the industry standard for single fin construction at the time.

Renowned shaper Dan Mann once told us that he loved the feel of G10 fins and appreciated the fact that they didn't chip when banged on something, unlike normal glass fins. G10 used epoxy and fiberglass laminate and was used in various industries. Fins made from this material were extremely durable and offered the advantage of controlled flex in the tip, which helped boards adjust to the contours of the wave and accelerate out of turns.

The Kaimana Line

Our line of fins was called the Kaimana, which combined two Hawaiian words - Kai, meaning ocean, and mana, meaning power. As the name suggested, these fins were built to add power to surfing, whether on a nose rider, a high-performance longboard, or a mid-length.

Fin Collection Features

The Kaimana fin collection featured a traditional rake fin outline and came in 7", 8", 9", and 10" options:

  • The 7" and 8" fins featured a thinner foil for increased release through turns, perfect for mid-lengths and 2+1 setups on performance longboards.
  • The fins were machined to dial in a super sensitive foil, resulting in a consistent fin design that was reliable and effective.
  • The 9" and 10" fins provided added hold and drive, ideal for traditional single-fin longboards and noseriding.

A Complement to Any Quiver

Regardless of the type of surfing, these fins were the perfect complement to any quiver. For those looking to liven up their surfing or simply discover a new feel on an old classic board, the Kaimana fin series was the answer.

While we no longer carry the Kaimana fin line, we continue to offer a wide range of high-quality fins and surfing accessories. We invite you to explore our current selection of fins, which maintain the same commitment to quality and performance that made the Kaimana line so popular.
