Designed by Rob in conjunction with his Firewire "Glazer" Model, this high-performance keel fin provides a fast and loose feel.
Most keel fins are twins, but Rob Machado wanted to have a tri keel to go with his Glazer design, which is a hybrid thruster that has a lot of foam and a pretty flat rocker—in other words, a groveler.
The Rob Machado Tri Keel has the classic keel template, with a wide base and low aspect ratio, which means it is shorter than your typical thruster fin. It is also constructed with Performance Glass, as are most of the keels in the FCS II line. These limits flex for the fins, which is helpful on a fin with so much surface area.
These fins are good for groveler boards that you would ride in small, weak waves—flatter boards that aren’t really surfed from rail to rail. If you have a board that is designed to get you a bunch of down-the-line speed in waves that don’t really provide a lot of power, and that is set up for three fins, then the Rob Machado Tri Keel is the perfect fin choice.
Normal thruster fins have a higher aspect ratio, which means they are taller and narrower in the tip, providing more lift. These keels won’t create as much lift, but they will provide more speed and hold their direction better. Think of them as more skatey rather than being for top-to-bottom surfing.
